Thursday, March 12
Good morning.
Remember yesterday when we said Thursday's storms were a gift? Time to unwrap it.
The cold front is here. Rain chances are up, temperatures are down, and a whole lot of families are about to look at the forecast and decide this is their "pool day." Which means the parks just got significantly more rideable for anyone willing to throw on a poncho.
Rainy days at Disney World aren't ruined days. They're discounted days β you just pay in dampness instead of dollars.
Here's what matters today.

Why Rainy Days Are the Best-Kept Secret at Walt Disney World
Here's what most first-time visitors get completely wrong about rain at Disney World: they treat it like a cancellation. Check the forecast, see a rain cloud, switch to a resort day. And in doing so, they hand everyone still in the parks one of the best touring experiences of the year.
Florida rain is almost never an all-day event. It's a 30β60 minute burst β sometimes dramatic, always temporary. But the crowd reaction is immediate and lasting. Families leave in waves. Wait times crater. And the parks stay thinned out for hours, even after the sky clears.
Today's cold front makes this even more pronounced. This isn't just a passing afternoon storm β it's the kind of weather that keeps casual visitors away entirely. Spring break crowds that have been hammering the parks all week will take their first real pause.
What stays open: Almost everything. Indoor rides run normally. Outdoor dark rides like Pirates and Haunted Mansion don't blink. Only outdoor coasters (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, TRON, Slinky Dog Dash, Expedition Everest) pause temporarily during lightning β and restart quickly once it passes.
What to bring: A cheap poncho (Dollar Tree, not the $15 Disney gift shop version), a Ziploc bag for your phone, and shoes that handle wet ground. Skip the umbrella β they're bulky and useless on rides.
What to expect: The kind of wait times you normally only see in early February. If you've been dodging Magic Kingdom all week because of crowds, today might be the day it finally cooperates.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
The sit-down restaurant hack that works even better on rain days.
On a typical spring break day, popular table-service restaurants are booked solid weeks in advance. But on rain days, cancellations spike. Families who were planning a nice dinner at Be Our Guest or Ohana suddenly decide to stay at the resort and order room service instead.
That means same-day availability pops up in the My Disney Experience app for restaurants that were showing zero openings 24 hours ago. Check the app between 8β9am and again around 3β4pm β those are the two windows when cancellations most frequently appear. You might land a table at a restaurant you assumed was impossible to book.
π Todayβs Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom β Moderate. Rain is doing its thing. If you've been waiting all week for a good MK day, this is it. Ride the outdoor headliners during breaks in the rain when lines crater.
EPCOT β Moderate. Festival booths less crowded, major rides all indoors. Close to an ideal EPCOT day.
Animal Kingdom β Moderate-Light. Rain clears this park out faster than any other. Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Journey stay open and waits drop fast.
Hollywood Studios β Moderate. Almost everything is indoors here. Rain barely affects the ride experience β it just clears out the people who think it does.
Strategy: This is your Magic Kingdom day. The one you've been saving. Get there at park open, hit outdoor rides while rain scares everyone off, then cruise through indoor attractions at your own pace. The evening should clear up β use it for anything you missed.
π€ Day Weather Forecast for Lake Buena Vista, Florida
Trend: Today's the rough one β and also the opportunity. Tomorrow clears out completely into what might be the best weather day of the entire week. Saturday stays comfortable. Sunday brings afternoon storms back. If you've got one big park day left to play, Friday is the move.
π― Final Take
We told you yesterday: Thursday's rain wasn't a ruined day. It was an opportunity wearing a poncho.
The families switching to a resort day right now are handing you shorter lines, open restaurant tables, and the kind of park experience that usually costs $449 in Lightning Lane fees to achieve.
Grab the poncho. Go ride stuff.
See you tomorrow.
