Daily Disney - Two rides before breakfast.
Daily Disney
May 03, 2026

Sunday, May 3
Good morning.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens today after more than a year behind walls. New track, new trains, the return of Rainbow Caverns, and a lowered 38-inch height requirement that just opened the ride to a whole new generation of prospectors. Expect opening-day waits to be punishing.
A tornado watch swept through Lake Buena Vista yesterday afternoon, but Sunday looks clean - 79ยฐ with a 5% rain chance, the coolest and driest day of the week. May the 4th is tomorrow at Hollywood Studios, which means lightsabers, Pink Milk, and exclusive merch drops. And today's Top Story might save you more time than any Lightning Lane purchase you'll ever make.
Here's what matters today.
๐ฏ Top Story

The first 30 minutes are worth more than the next three hours
Early Entry gives Disney resort guests 30 minutes in the parks before anyone else. It is the single most valuable free perk of staying on property. And most families blow it before they ride a single ride.
Show up 45 to 60 minutes before Early Entry starts. If Early Entry begins at 8:30 AM, be at the park entrance by 7:45. Disney often opens the tapstiles 45 minutes early at Magic Kingdom. You won't be riding yet, but you'll be through security and positioned at the rope before the clock starts. The families who arrive at 8:30 thinking they're on time are already behind.
Use the side tapstiles. Most families funnel into the center because that's what they see first. The far left and far right lines are almost always shorter. Walk past the crowd, tap in on the edges, and you're through faster.
Hold metal items in your hand at security. Portable chargers, water bottles, anything metal in your bag will flag the scanner and send you to secondary screening. Pull them out and hold them as you walk through. Security can see what you're holding and wave you through.
Walk with a purpose. Don't stroll. You have 30 minutes to ride the headliners that will cost you 60 to 90 minutes later.
At Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train first, then Peter Pan's Flight. Both are in Fantasyland and both are Early Entry eligible. Knocking out both saves 60 to 120 minutes of standby later. Skip Tomorrowland for now. Those waits are shorter later. Important: Frontierland does not open during Early Entry. Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain are not available until official rope drop.
At Animal Kingdom, Avatar Flight of Passage first, then Na'vi River Journey. Flight of Passage consistently draws the longest standby waits in the park. If you're not near the front of the pack, Na'vi first and come back for Flight of Passage later is sometimes the smarter play.
At Hollywood Studios, Rise of the Resistance or Slinky Dog Dash. Experienced Early Entry guests regularly knock out both during or immediately after the 30-minute window. That's 2 to 4 hours of standby saved before the park officially opens.
At EPCOT, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind from the front entrance. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure if you're entering through International Gateway from the Skyliner or Crescent Lake resorts. Frozen Ever After is also Early Entry eligible and holds long afternoon waits. Two headliners before breakfast is very doable here.
The real trick. Make your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection while you're walking to your first ride, not after you've ridden it. The best return windows disappear fast, especially at Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. Stack Early Entry with Lightning Lane and you've effectively bought yourself two to three extra hours before most guests have finished their coffee.
Two rides before breakfast. That's the goal. Everything after that is gravy.

โก Daily Disney QUICK HITS
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens today with new track, new trains, the return of Rainbow Caverns, and a lowered height requirement from 40 inches to 38. It will be part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass. If this is a must-do during opening week, rope drop or Lightning Lane. There is no third option.
May the 4th arrives tomorrow at Hollywood Studios with exclusive merchandise, special food (Pink Milk is already at Docking Bay 7), and character appearances across Galaxy's Edge. Disney typically runs a virtual queue for limited-edition May the 4th merch. Join it from the My Disney Experience app early and don't expect anything to last past noon.
Johnston & Murphy closes its Disney Springs location on May 7 after 10 years in Town Center, the fourth Disney Springs retail closure of 2026 following Sprinkles, Francesca's, and Shore. New openings coming later this year include Six Ravens (from the Gideon's Bakehouse team) and Level99 in the former NBA Experience space.
Cast Member previews for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and Soarin' Across America begin May 6. Disney has confirmed both preview windows for eligible Cast Members and Employees. Annual Passholder and DVC member previews have not been officially announced but historically follow Cast Member previews by a few days.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach reopen simultaneously on May 12, and for the first time in years, both water parks will run together through the summer. That matters for planners because Disney resort guests checking in between May 26 and September 8 get free admission to either park on their arrival day. Most families waste check-in day sitting in a resort lobby. Free water park admission flips that. Drop bags at Bell Services, change at the resort pool locker room, and spend the afternoon at Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. Disney transportation runs straight there. Towels are provided. Lockers are cheap. You arrive at your room that night relaxed instead of irritated.
๐ Today's Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom is very heavy. Big Thunder reopens today, and the opening-day crowd will flood Frontierland. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON will hold long waits on top of the usual Sunday traffic. Happily Ever After at 10 PM.
EPCOT is moderate. Flower & Garden continues but Sunday afternoon traffic is lighter than Saturday. Good day for Frozen Ever After and Guardians standby.
Animal Kingdom is moderate. Sunday traffic present but manageable. Flight of Passage climbs by mid-morning, but the rest of the park breathes well.
Hollywood Studios is heavy. Sunday crowd plus anticipation for tomorrow's May the 4th celebrations. Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash hold long waits.
Strategy: If Big Thunder is your priority, rope drop Magic Kingdom and head straight to Frontierland when the land opens at official park opening (remember, Frontierland is not part of Early Entry). If you'd rather avoid the opening-day chaos, EPCOT or Animal Kingdom are the smarter plays today. Save Big Thunder for midweek when the surge fades.

๐ข The Porthole - Disney Cruise Line
If your Disney cruise itinerary includes Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, here's the one thing nobody warns you about: the pier walk. The half-mile open-trestle walkway from ship to shore takes about 10 to 15 minutes in full sun, with no shade, before you reach the tram to the main beach area. It's not a dealbreaker, but it changes how you pack for the day. Wear real shoes (not flip-flops), bring water, and leave anything you don't need back on the ship because you won't want to make a second trip. The payoff is worth it. Lookout Cay's beaches are wider and less crowded than Castaway Cay's, the Bahamian-designed architecture is unlike anything else in the Disney ecosystem, and the Junkanoo cultural show at the Goombay Cultural Center is genuinely worth your time. Cabanas at Mabrika Cove sell out fast. Book the moment your reservation window opens.
๐ค 7-Day Weather Forecast โ Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Trend: Sunday is the pick of the week. A cool front clears the humidity from yesterday's storms, then the heat climbs steadily into the low 90s by Wednesday. Mid-60s overnight lows keep early morning rope drop comfortable. Hydrate aggressively after Tuesday.
๐ฏ Final Take
The difference between a great Disney trip and a frustrating one is usually decided before 9 AM.
The family who shows up 45 minutes early, walks past the center tapstiles, holds their water bottle in their hand at security, and walks with purpose to the first ride gets two headliners done before most guests have found the right parking tram. That's not luck. That's a plan.
Disney rewards the prepared. The parks are designed to be enjoyed by everyone, but they are designed to be navigated by the people who did the homework. The first 30 minutes are where homework pays off.
After that, slow down. Enjoy the park. But earn the morning first.
See you tomorrow.
