Daily Disney - Stop overpaying for the wrong room

Sunday, April 26
Good morning.
Sunday in Lake Buena Vista is shaping up damp - 87° with afternoon thunderstorms rolling in around the 35% mark, and the kind of humidity that makes ponchos feel less like rain gear and more like a personality.
Big Thunder Mountain reopens one week from today after eight months in the dark, the longest closure of any Magic Kingdom headliner this decade. The Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian quietly returned this month after a six-year break, which is a long time for a tea room to take off, even by Disney standards.
And if you're still in the booking phase, today's piece on resort rooms might save you a few hundred steps a day on your trip!
Here's what matters today.

The best rooms to request when you book a preferred room
Booking a preferred room at a Disney resort means you're paying $25 to $40 more per night for one thing: location. Not a better room. Not a better view. Just a shorter walk. Whether that upgrade pays off depends entirely on which specific building inside the preferred section you end up in.
Disney lets you make a free room request after booking through My Disney Experience, but the request is only as good as the building number you submit. Here are the smartest requests at the biggest resorts.
Disney's Pop Century Resort. Preferred rooms are in the 50s, 60s, and 70s sections, specifically Buildings 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10.
If your priority is the Skyliner, request Building 4 or Building 5. Building 4 sits closest to the gondola station, and the area around Room 4160 is roughly the shortest walk to where the morning Skyliner line forms. If your priority is Classic Hall (lobby, food court, bus stop), request Building 1 or Building 6.
Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Important and counterintuitive: Art of Animation has no traditional preferred category, and the Little Mermaid standard rooms (Buildings 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9) are the farthest from everything in the resort. Expect roughly an 8-minute walk to the lobby or the Skyliner.
If you're in Little Mermaid, request Building 7 for the shortest walk to Animation Hall. If you're booking a Family Suite, the Finding Nemo Suites in Buildings 1, 2, and 3 are the closest rooms in the entire resort to the Skyliner. Building 1 is the absolute closest.
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. As of 2026, Disney simplified bookings to Standard and Preferred. Preferred rooms sit in Martinique (Buildings 24, 25, 26) and Barbados (Buildings 31, 32, 33), all clustered around Old Port Royale, the main pool, and Centertown Market.
Two smart moves if you're booking standard: request Jamaica Buildings 41, 42, or 43 for direct access to the main Skyliner hub (these were recently reclassified as preferred because they're so close), or request Aruba Buildings 54, 55, or 56 for the EPCOT shortcut via the Riviera Skyliner station, which is usually quieter than the main hub.
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. Preferred rooms cluster around El Centro (lobby, dining, bus stop). For most guests, skip the preferred upgrade and book Gran Destino Tower instead. The Tower has its own elevators, three restaurants on site (including Toledo), and the most convenient transportation. Often prices comparably to a standard preferred.
Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside. Preferred rooms are in the Magnolia Bend mansion buildings, closest to the main building, food court, and the boat dock to Disney Springs.
Disney's Port Orleans - French Quarter. Small enough that no building is a long walk. No preferred category. Save the money.
The takeaway
A preferred room is worthless if you don't tell Disney exactly which building you want. The upgrade just gets you into a smaller pool of buildings, and the differences between buildings inside that pool can mean an extra five to ten minutes of walking each way.
Make the request 60 days out through online check-in in My Disney Experience. Pick one building. Be specific. Requests aren't guaranteed, but specific ones get honored at much higher rates than vague ones.
Pay attention to what you're really paying for, and the preferred room becomes one of the better small upgrades on property.

⚡ Daily Disney QUICK HITS
The Diamond Horseshoe pauses May 16 for a Toy Story 5 takeover. Magic Kingdom's classic Liberty Square restaurant transitions into Jessie's Roundup: A Rip-Roarin' Revue! starting May 26 and running through September 8, with live appearances from Jessie, Woody, and Bullseye. Diamond Horseshoe dining returns in fall 2026.
Garden View Tea Room is back at the Grand Floridian. After a six-year intermission, the afternoon tea experience returned this month with a refreshed menu and updated interior. Reservations through My Disney Experience.
There's a new summer ticket worth knowing about. Disney's 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket is valid for arrivals between May 26 and September 26, lets guests visit one park per day for four days, and prices below the standard 4-day ticket. Available through Disney or an authorized travel planner.
The Quiet Cove Pool is closed on Disney Destiny. The adults-only pool space on Disney Cruise Line's newest ship is offline for refurbishment. If you're sailing in the next few weeks and the quiet pool was the whole point, plan around it.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
Magic Kingdom rope drop changed this spring, and most guests haven't caught up.
For years, the move at Early Entry was simple: bolt to Fantasyland for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Tomorrowland for Space Mountain. Frontierland got ignored. With Big Thunder Mountain reopening May 3 and Tiana's Bayou Adventure already drawing huge demand, Frontierland is now where the smart morning happens. The catch: Frontierland doesn't open during Early Entry. Everyone heads there together when the official rope drops.
Here's the play. If you have Early Entry, ride Seven Dwarfs Mine Train first, then take the Tangled Bathrooms walkway from Fantasyland directly into Liberty Square. That route puts you at the Frontierland rope ahead of the crowd flowing in from Main Street and Adventureland. Tiana's Bayou Adventure has the biggest rope drop advantage of any Magic Kingdom ride, with waits 46 minutes shorter at opening than at the afternoon peak. Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion are quick walks from there.
If you don't have Early Entry, skip Fantasyland entirely. Park yourself at the Adventureland rope at official opening and ride Tiana's first. You'll save 30 to 45 minutes versus the standard advice from a year ago.
📊 Today's Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom - Heavy. Sunday weekend traffic plus afternoon storms will compress everyone into indoor queues. Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, and Pirates will see the longest waits.
EPCOT - Moderate. Flower & Garden still pulls locals, but Sunday afternoon rain typically clears the festival booths. World Discovery and World Celebration hold up best when the weather turns.
Animal Kingdom - Moderate. Storm risk hits this park hardest because so much of it is outdoors. Flight of Passage and Na'vi River are decent rainy-day plays since both queues are mostly covered.
Hollywood Studios - Heavy. Galaxy's Edge runs covered queues, and Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, and Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway will all hold long waits through the afternoon.
Strategy: Front-load the morning. Get to your park at rope drop, hit your top three rides by 11 AM, and be ready to retreat indoors when the storms arrive around 2 to 3 PM. Disney Springs, the Grand Floridian, or your resort pool all make better afternoon plays than standing in an outdoor standby line in the rain.

🚢 The Porthole - Disney Cruise Line
If you've ever thought about pairing a Walt Disney World trip with a short Disney cruise, this summer's the moment. Disney Destiny, the newest ship in the fleet from her Fort Lauderdale homeport, is running a steady stream of 3- and 4-night Bahamian sailings from June through September with stops at Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Disney Wish runs the same length cruises out of Port Canaveral, an hour from the parks. A 4-night cruise tacked onto a 5-night park trip is the classic land-and-sea move: rest days are built in, dinner is included, the kids get a second wind, and you don't have to plan another thing once you're on board.
🌤 7-Day Weather Forecast — Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Trend: A wet front clears by Tuesday, then the week dries out and warms toward 90°. Tuesday through Saturday is the strongest park stretch. Mid-60s overnight lows keep early morning rope drop very comfortable.
🎯 Final Take
Most people don't pick the wrong resort. They pick the wrong room.
Disney's room categories sound simple in the booking flow. Standard. Preferred. Pool view. Water view. But the difference between a good Disney trip and a great one is often measured in steps. The walk from your bed to the bus. The walk from the bus to the rope. The walk back at midnight after fireworks with three exhausted kids who suddenly weigh 800 pounds each.
A vacation is hundreds of small decisions, and the accumulated cost of every wrong one is the reason families come home from Disney saying "we need a vacation from our vacation." The cost isn't the trip. It's the friction.
Spend the time on the small calls. Pick the right building. Pick the right starting attraction. Pick the right time to leave. The trip you'll remember is the one you set up before you ever got to the gate.
See you tomorrow.
