Wednesday, May 20
Good morning.
Wednesday is 90 degrees in Lake Buena Vista with a 15% rain chance, which is about as cooperative as Florida gets in late May. Annual Passholders got their first ride on Soarin' Across America yesterday and the early reviews are glowing - new domestic footage, updated scent effects, and a finale that hits different than the Around the World version. Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at the Polynesian just announced new menu items, which is the kind of sentence that makes a certain type of Disney adult drop everything and start refreshing the walk-up list. And today's Top Story is about something most families don't think is possible: a full day inside the Disney bubble without buying a single park ticket.
Here's what matters today.
๐ฏ Top Story

A full day at Disney World. No park ticket. Zero dollars.
An entire day inside the Disney bubble - free transportation, billion-dollar resort lobbies, fireworks from the 15th floor - without buying a single park ticket.
Start at Disney Springs. Free parking. Grab a bus to Pop Century or Art of Animation. Walk through the larger-than-life movie courtyards, then board the Skyliner. Ride through Caribbean Beach, past the Riviera, get off at EPCOT's International Gateway, and walk five minutes to Disney's BoardWalk. A quarter-mile promenade modeled after early 1900s East Coast boardwalks. Grab an ice cream, a corn dog at Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, or a Dole Whip with rum at BoardWalk Joe's. Rent a Surrey bike and pedal around Crescent Lake. Walk through the lobbies at Beach Club and Yacht Club. The entire Crescent Lake neighborhood is walkable and free.
Now the monorail loop. Bus from BoardWalk to Magic Kingdom. Board the resort monorail. No park ticket needed. Make your first stop: the Grand Floridian. Five-story Victorian atrium, live pianist on the first floor, and The Perch, the brand-new birdcage-inspired lobby bar with custom stained glass, brass accents, and signature cocktails. Deep couches downstairs. Absolutely nowhere you need to be.
Next stop: the Contemporary. Walk through the Grand Canyon Concourse while a monorail glides through the building above your head. It's around 5 PM. Take the elevator to the 15th floor. California Grill Lounge. Walk-up andhave a great glass of wine or a drink at the bar, and make sure you keep your receipt, this will be important later!
Next stop: the Polynesian. The Great Ceremonial House smells like plumeria the second you walk in. Tambu Lounge on the second floor serves 'Ohana pot stickers, pork fried noodles, and honey coriander chicken wings. Full 'Ohana flavors without the reservation or the price tag. This is dinner.
Thirty minutes before fireworks, monorail back to the Contemporary. Take that California Grill receipt to the 2nd floor check-in desk. They escort you to the 15th floor observation deck. Panoramic views. Happily Ever After exploding directly in front of you. Show audio piped in. The single best fireworks viewing spot at Walt Disney World. No park ticket. Just a receipt and the knowledge that most families have no idea this exists.
Total cost: whatever you eat and drink. Everything else is free.

โก Daily Disney QUICK HITS
Annual Passholder previews for Soarin' Across America ran yesterday and continue today at EPCOT. Passholders can ride by joining the standby queue at The Land pavilion. No separate registration required. Early riders are reporting entirely new domestic footage, updated scent effects, and a noticeably different finale from the Around the World version. Opens to the public May 26.
Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Village Resort announced new menu items this week, including updated cocktails and small plates. The themed tiki bar remains one of the hardest walk-up spots on property. If Trader Sam's is on your list, arrive before the 3 PM opening. The line starts forming early.
Disney revealed the on-ride photo options for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets this week. Three different themed frames will be available, each with a distinct Muppet design. Guests can choose their preferred frame when downloading through My Disney Experience. The ride opens May 26.
Disney confirmed new hotel perks for 2027, including expanded room service menus, updated in-room technology, and refreshed pool areas at select resorts. Details are still rolling out, but families booking 2027 packages should see improvements at value, moderate, and deluxe resorts across the board.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
When a Lightning Lane return time shows "unavailable," most families give up. Don't.
Return windows reappear throughout the day as guests cancel, miss their windows, or modify their selections. Check back every 15 to 20 minutes. Set a phone timer if you have to. The best windows for headliner rides like Rise of the Resistance, TRON, and Guardians of the Galaxy tend to reappear between 11 AM and 1 PM when the first wave of morning bookings expires, and again between 4 PM and 6 PM as families leave the parks.
This works for both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. "Sold out" almost never means sold out for the rest of the day. It means sold out right now. Keep checking.
๐ Today's Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom is moderate. Mid-week, pre-Memorial Day. Park hours 9 AM to 9 PM tonight. Happily Ever After at 10 PM. Good day to be here before the weekend surge.
EPCOT is moderate. Soarin' Across America AP previews continue today. Flower & Garden in its final 12 days. Guardians and Frozen Ever After hold reasonable standby waits.
Animal Kingdom is light. Wednesday is historically the lightest day here. Rope drop Flight of Passage and you're done with Pandora by 10 AM.
Hollywood Studios is heavy. Mandalorian premiere in two days. Galaxy's Edge energy is building. Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash hold long waits.
Strategy: This is the last quiet Wednesday before Memorial Day. Magic Kingdom and EPCOT are both strong plays. Animal Kingdom in the morning if you want the lightest park experience of the week. Hollywood Studios only with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

๐ข The Porthole - Disney Cruise Line
The single biggest mistake first-time Disney cruisers make is waiting until they board to plan the port days. Port excursions open for booking months before your sailing, and the best ones sell out fast. A private Castaway Cay cabana. The glacier helicopter in Alaska. The catamaran snorkeling in the Bahamas. The ATV tour in Cozumel. All of them have limited capacity, and the families who booked at the window opening are the ones who got them. Check your My Disney Cruise booking for the excursion reservation date. Set a reminder. Book the morning it opens. If you wait until embarkation day, you're choosing from whatever's left, which is usually the bus tour nobody wanted.
๐ค 7-Day Weather Forecast โ Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Trend: A wet stretch Tuesday through Thursday gives way to a hot, dry Memorial Day weekend in the low 90s. Friday through Monday is the prime weather window but also the prime crowd window. The trade-off is real. If you can shift park days to the rainy mid-week, you'll trade a poncho for dramatically shorter wait times.
๐ฏ Final Take
Walt Disney World is 25,000 acres, and most families only see about 3% of it.
Four parks. A few restaurants. The bus route from the resort to the gate and back. That's the trip most families take. But the monorail loop, the Skyliner, the Crescent Lake neighborhood, the resort lobbies, the fireworks from the 15th floor of the Contemporary - all of it is there, all of it is free, and almost nobody uses it.
The best Disney trips are the ones where you realize the parks are only part of the story. The resort is the rest. And the resort doesn't charge admission.
See you tomorrow.
