Daily Disney - Give Mom the day off!
The mom day off that actually saves your trip Yesterday we gave Dad a golf course and a fishing boat. Today it's Mom's turn. And the truth is, Mom's day off might matter more, because Mom is almost always the one who planned the trip, booked the dining, packed the bags, built the touring plan, and has been holding the whole operation together since the airport.

Daily Disney - Give Mom the day off!
Daily Disney
May 12, 2026

Tuesday, May 12
Good morning.
Both water parks are officially open as of today, and for the first time in years, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are running simultaneously through the summer. It's 83 degrees in Lake Buena Vista with an 85% chance of afternoon storms, which is Florida's way of reminding you that the waterslides were probably the right call anyway. The Mandalorian & Grogu preshow at Smugglers Run quietly switched over this weekend, 10 days ahead of the official May 22 launch. Magic Kingdom closes early Wednesday for a private buyout, so if MK was on your mid-week plan, move it. And yesterday we gave Dad a day off. Today, it's Mom's turn.
Here's what matters today.

The mom day off that actually saves your trip
Yesterday we gave Dad a golf course and a fishing boat. Today it's Mom's turn. And the truth is, Mom's day off might matter more, because Mom is almost always the one who planned the trip, booked the dining, packed the bags, built the touring plan, and has been holding the whole operation together since the airport.
Some days, the best thing Mom can do for the trip is hand the kids to Dad and disappear for six hours.
The Grand Floridian Spa is the only full-service Disney-operated spa on property. Massages start at $75 and run up to $310 for the 80-minute Grand Signature. Facials, body wraps, nails, and hair services are all available. Book up to 60 days in advance. At check-in, you pick a colored stone representing your intention for the day, and the manicure service comes with a glass of champagne. Take the monorail from the TTC or any Magic Kingdom-area resort. You don't have to be staying at the Grand Floridian.
Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is the other option, and the vibe is completely different. A 10,500-square-foot Balinese-inspired retreat with a Tea Garden, a Meditation Garden, and a signature coconut poultice massage that guests consistently call one of the best they've ever had. Named one of USA Today's must-visit spas in Orlando. It's walkable from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios or a short Friendship Boat ride from the Boardwalk area. Open daily 8 AM to 8 PM. No Disney resort stay required.
The Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian reopened in March after being closed for six years, and it's worth the wait. A proper British afternoon tea experience themed to Alice in Wonderland, with Twinings loose leaf teas, scones, small bites, and pastries served in a sunlit conservatory with floor-to-ceiling windows and stained glass featuring Florida birds. Adult tea service, a plant-based option, and a children's tea are all available. Reservations through My Disney Experience.
Disney Springs is 120 acres of shopping that doesn't require a park ticket or a touring plan. The Ganachery for handmade chocolates. Amorette's Patisserie for petit cakes and eclairs. Vera Bradley, PANDORA, Dooney & Bourke, and dozens of boutiques that have nothing to do with Mickey ears. A slow afternoon with a coffee and no stroller is a different experience entirely.
If Mom wants to stay in the parks but without the rope-drop sprint, a solo walk through EPCOT's World Showcase during Flower & Garden is one of the best afternoons on property. Outdoor Kitchens with small plates and cocktails. Topiary gardens. The Garden Rocks concert series at the America Gardens Theatre. No stroller. No schedule. No one asking when they can ride Test Track again.
And there's always the pool. Stormalong Bay at Beach Club has the swim-up bar. The Polynesian pool overlooks Seven Seas Lagoon. The Grand Floridian beach has hammocks and a view of Cinderella Castle. Pick one. Sit. Do nothing.
The families who do Disney the best give everyone a turn to recharge. Dad got his morning yesterday. Today, Mom gets hers. The kids won't even notice. Dad will figure it out.
Probably.

โก Daily Disney QUICK HITS
The Mandalorian & Grogu preshow at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run switched over this weekend at Hollywood Studios, 10 days ahead of the official May 22 launch. The ride queue now features Mandalorian and Grogu storyline elements, though the ride mission itself doesn't officially change until May 22. If you're riding Smugglers Run this week, you're getting a preview.
Magic Kingdom closes early Wednesday, May 13, for a private park buyout. If Magic Kingdom was part of your mid-week plan, move it to Tuesday or Thursday. Private buyouts mean an early close with no Happily Ever After that night. Check the My Disney Experience app for updated park hours before you finalize your day.
Big Al's, the Country Bear-themed shop in Frontierland, has permanently closed as Piston Peak National Park construction expands. Larger construction walls are going up past the Big Thunder Mountain exit, and the footprint of the new land is becoming more visible by the day. Another piece of classic Frontierland quietly disappearing.
Construction crews have started work on the loading area for the Monsters, Inc. door roller coaster at Hollywood Studios. Steel framing and track supports are now visible from backstage areas near the former Backlot area. This is the first physical evidence of ride infrastructure for what will be the centerpiece of the new Monstropolis land.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
Every Disney resort has coin-operated guest laundry rooms, and most families never use them because they packed a different outfit for every day of the trip. That's a mistake.
Smart families pack for 3 to 4 days and do laundry mid-trip. The math is simple: lighter luggage means fewer checked bags on the flight, less to haul from the Magical Express or rental car to the room, and more suitcase space for the souvenirs your kids are definitely buying. Laundry rooms have washers, dryers, and single-use detergent pods for sale. Most are open 24 hours and nearly empty before 8 AM or after 10 PM. Throw in a load while the kids are in the pool, switch it during dinner, and fold it before bed.
One load costs about $3 to wash and $3 to dry. For a family of four doing two mid-trip loads, that's $12 versus a checked bag fee of $35 each way. You save $58, you pack lighter, and you go home with room for the lightsaber, the ears, and the spirit jersey you swore you wouldn't buy.
๐ Today's Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom is moderate. Tuesday weekday crowds are manageable. Big Thunder settling into normal patterns. Note: Magic Kingdom closes early tomorrow for a private buyout, so if MK is a priority this week, today is the day.
EPCOT is moderate. Flower & Garden in its final three weeks. Guardians, Frozen Ever After, and Test Track are all good standby targets.
Animal Kingdom is light. Tuesday is historically one of the busier weekdays here, but May shoulder season keeps things manageable. Rope drop Flight of Passage.
Hollywood Studios is heavy. Smugglers Run preshow change is drawing curious guests. Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash hold long waits.
Strategy: Magic Kingdom today if it was on your plan for this week, since tomorrow's private buyout takes it off the board. EPCOT pairs well as an afternoon hop for Outdoor Kitchens and Luminous. Hollywood Studios stays packed.

๐ข The Porthole - Disney Cruise Line
The Rainforest Room on every Disney cruise ship is the spa secret most first-time cruisers don't discover until day three, and by then the passes are sold out. It's a hydrotherapy circuit inside Senses Spa with dry saunas, steam rooms, aromatherapy showers, heated stone loungers with ocean views, and hot tubs on a private outdoor deck (on the Wish-class ships). Adults only, 18 and up, swimsuit required. Day passes start around $29 to $79 depending on the ship and sailing. Voyage-length passes are available on select sailings and are the better value if you plan to use it more than once. Passes are limited and sell out fast, especially for sea days. Head to Senses Spa immediately after the muster drill on embarkation day, or pre-purchase through your travel agent before boarding. If Mom's day off from the Top Story sounds good to you, the Rainforest Room is the cruise ship version. Heated stone lounger, ocean view, zero children. Sold.
๐ค 7-Day Weather Forecast โ Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Trend: A wet Tuesday and Wednesday clear out by Thursday, then the week dries into a pleasant upper-80s stretch through the weekend. Thursday through Sunday is the prime touring window. The rainy days are actually perfect for a spa morning, a tea at the Grand Floridian, or a Disney Springs afternoon. Plan around the weather, not against it.
๐ฏ Final Take
The person who planned the trip is the person who most needs a break from it.
Most Disney vacations are planned by one person. They researched the resorts. They set the 60-day alarm. They booked the dining, built the touring plan, packed the bags, loaded the car, and managed the My Disney Experience app for the whole family. By day three, they're running on coffee and obligation.
Give that person a morning off. A spa. A tea. A solo walk through World Showcase with a glass of wine and no one pulling on their sleeve. The trip they planned for everyone else should include a day they planned for themselves.
The best souvenir from a Disney trip isn't a spirit jersey. It's coming home and actually wanting to go back.
See you tomorrow.
