Monday, May 11
Good morning.
Monday brings 90 degrees and a 75% chance of afternoon storms to Lake Buena Vista, so today is a front-load-the-morning kind of day. Soarin' Around the World has three days left before it closes permanently on Wednesday. Both water parks reopen tomorrow. Extended Evening Hours are at Hollywood Studios tonight for Deluxe Resort guests, 9 PM to 11 PM. And today's Top Story is for every dad who has ever stood outside Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique wondering if there was a better use of his afternoon.
Here's what matters today.

The dad day off that actually saves your trip
Here's the dirty secret of Disney vacation planning: Dad doesn't need to be at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. He doesn't need to watch the princess makeover. He doesn't need to stand outside the boutique holding a backpack and a lightsaber for 45 minutes pretending to look at his phone while three other dads do exactly the same thing. And sometimes, Dad just doesn't get Disney. That's okay. Not everyone needs to cry during Happily Ever After.
Some days, the best thing Dad can do for the trip is not be at the park.
Disney's Magnolia Golf Course sits across from the Polynesian, and it's one of the best rounds in Central Florida. Eighteen holes through a certified Audubon wildlife sanctuary with 97 bunkers, a Mickey Mouse-shaped sand trap on the 6th hole that's been there for over 40 years, and a new stretch of reimagined holes called Grumpy's Gauntlet on 14 through 17 that will test everything you brought. Disney's Palm Golf Course is on the same property. Both are championship-level courses operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management. Disney resort guests book tee times up to 90 days in advance. Club rentals run $59. Free taxi service from any Disney resort hotel through Bell Services. Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is closed for renovation through fall 2026, so Magnolia and Palm are your two options right now. Oak Trail, a 9-hole walking course on the same grounds, is perfect for the dad who wants to play but doesn't want to commit four hours.
Guided bass fishing excursions run on Bay Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon, Crescent Lake, and the World Showcase Lagoon inside EPCOT. A 2-hour trip for up to 5 people runs $270 and includes the guide, all gear, live bait, and drinks. A 4-hour trip is $455. Solo anglers can book an afternoon excursion for $170. All catch-and-release, all largemouth bass, and no fishing license required because Disney's waters are privately stocked. The early morning 7 AM departure on Bay Lake is the one to book. You're on the water watching the sun come up behind the Contemporary while the rest of the family is still asleep. Call (407) WDW-BASS up to 180 days in advance.
And then there's the pool. Stormalong Bay at the Beach Club and Yacht Club is a 3-acre sand-bottom pool with a lazy river, waterslide, and a swim-up bar. If Dad's idea of a perfect afternoon is a lounge chair, a drink, and absolutely nothing to plan, the resort pool is the answer. Disney's resort Wi-Fi works poolside, so if he needs to knock out a few emails or jump on a call to justify the morning off, he can do that too. Half working, half floating, fully recharged by dinner.
The families who do Disney the best don't do everything together every day. They split up when it makes sense. Dad gets a morning on the golf course or the lake. Mom and the kids do character meets without someone sighing in the background. Everyone meets up for dinner rested and happy instead of collectively exhausted and one turkey leg away from a fight.
Give Dad a day off. The trip gets better.
Tomorrow, we talk about Mom's day off.

โก Daily Disney QUICK HITS
Banana Ball is coming to ESPN Wide World of Sports on May 29 and 30. The viral exhibition baseball team (trick plays, dancing on the field, on-field shenanigans) is playing at Walt Disney World for the first time ever. A limited number of tickets inclusive of food and beverage will be available for purchase soon. If you're on property that weekend and want something completely different, this is it.
Permits have been filed for Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom, suggesting preliminary work on the long-rumored reimagining may begin after hours soon. No closure date has been announced, but a shutdown is expected in the second half of 2026 or early 2027. If this is a must-do for your trip, ride it this summer while you can.
Jumping Junction (formerly Affection Section at Conservation Station) reopens May 26 alongside the Bluey's Wild World debut at Animal Kingdom. The reimagined petting zoo area will feature new animal encounters. It's part of the broader Cool Kids' Summer rollout.
A new Florida resident ticket deal is expected to launch around May 17, replacing the current deal that expires May 16. Disney Tourist Blog reports the gap between deals has historically been less than a day. If you're a Florida resident planning a summer visit, wait for the new offer before buying.

Daily Disney Insider Tip
Disney's free transportation system has faster options than the bus for almost every route, but you have to know which one to use.
The monorail connects three resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian) to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. If you're staying at any of those resorts, the monorail to Magic Kingdom beats the bus every time. The EPCOT monorail runs from the Transportation and Ticket Center as a direct shot to the front of the park, which is often faster than the bus from a Magic Kingdom-area resort.
The Skyliner connects Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. If you're at any of those resorts, the Skyliner is your default to those two parks, not the bus. Buses still run to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios from Skyliner resorts, but the gondola is faster and runs continuously. For Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, and the water parks, the bus is your only free option from those resorts.
The boats are the hidden shortcut most families miss. The Friendship Boats connect Hollywood Studios, EPCOT's International Gateway, and the Boardwalk-area resorts (Beach Club, Yacht Club, BoardWalk, Swan, Dolphin). The boat from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom crosses Bay Lake in about 10 minutes. And the boat from Fort Wilderness or Wilderness Lodge to the Contemporary takes you to the monorail loop without ever touching a bus.
Check the My Disney Experience app before you leave your resort. Tap Get Directions, enter your destination, and the app shows every available route. The bus is always listed. It's rarely the fastest option.
๐ Today's Crowd Size Snapshot
Magic Kingdom is moderate. Monday weekday crowds stay manageable. Soarin' closes Wednesday at EPCOT, but that won't impact Magic Kingdom traffic. Big Thunder settling into normal wait patterns after opening week.
EPCOT is moderate to heavy. Soarin' Around the World has three days left, and word-of-mouth nostalgia is pulling extra riders. Flower & Garden continues. Good day for Guardians and Frozen Ever After standby.
Animal Kingdom is light. Monday is consistently quiet here. Rope drop Flight of Passage and you'll have the park's biggest ride done before 10 AM.
Hollywood Studios is heavy. Extended Evening Hours tonight (9 PM to 11 PM for Deluxe Resort guests) will keep traffic in the park late. Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash hold long waits as always.
Strategy: If Soarin' is on your list, today is the day. Three days left. Rope drop EPCOT and ride it first. If you're at a Deluxe Resort, Hollywood Studios tonight during Extended Evening Hours gives you dramatically reduced waits on Tower of Terror, Slinky Dog, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Animal Kingdom in the morning if you want Flight of Passage with minimal effort.

๐ข The Porthole - Disney Cruise Line
The Oceaneers Club is the reason your kids will beg to skip the beach and stay on the ship. It's Disney Cruise Line's kids' club for ages 3 to 12, included in the fare, and it's not a glorified daycare. The Wish-class ships run Marvel Super Hero Academy (mission-based activities with Avengers characters), Star Wars: Cargo Bay (interactive smuggling missions in a replica cargo hold), Disney's Fairy Tale Hall (princess craft activities), and Walt Disney Imagineering Lab (design and build your own roller coaster, then ride it in a simulator). Counselors run structured activities all day and into the evening. Kids check in and out freely, and you can track them through the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Most parents drop their kids off planning to check back in an hour. Three hours later, the kid refuses to leave. This is the perk that quietly makes every Disney cruise an adult vacation too.
๐ค 7-Day Weather Forecast โ Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Trend: A wet Monday and Tuesday break the heat, then the week dries out and warms back into the upper 80s. Wednesday through Sunday is the prime touring stretch. The two rainy days are ironically perfect for Dad's pool day or fishing morning since both work rain or shine.
๐ฏ Final Take
The best Disney trips have breathing room.
Not every day needs to be a 14-hour park marathon. Not every family member needs to be at every park. Not every dad needs to pretend he's having a great time watching a princess makeover when what he actually wants is to be on a boat on Bay Lake at 7 AM with a fishing rod and a cup of coffee.
The families who split up strategically come back together happier. The dad who got his morning on the golf course is the dad who's smiling at the fireworks instead of checking his watch. The mom who got the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique experience without someone sighing behind her is the mom who had the moment she'd been planning for six months.
Disney is big enough for everyone to have their version of a perfect day. Let them.
See you tomorrow.
